Brothers of the Sun Tour 2012
Foxborough, MA

The Brothers of the Sun tour was a co-headlining tour showcasing Kenny Chesney & Tim McGraw. Performing in 22 cities/stadiums across the country and grossing between four and five million dollars a night, the co-headlining show was obviously a huge success. The energy of all the acts was inspiring.

Jake Owen came on first and performed to the smallest crowd, which personally I think was an outrage considering Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are not even country music, but he performed his heart out. If fans had stopped tailgating and come in to see him, they would have witnessed his barefoot self running around that stage as if he was performing to a packed house. He recognized that those there early were “true music lovers that were there to party.”

I wish they would have publicized Jake’s performance time better because I heard a lot of people piling in confused and asking “Jake already performed?.” I get it; it was a natural assumption that the Barefoot, Blue Jean Night singer would be higher billed than the non-country band. But his enthusiasm was amazing and I can’t wait to see him headlining his own tour.

Grace Potter & the Nocturnals’ Indy Rock style, mixed with tribal rain cries and classic rock left the crowd confused of what genre they actually perform. Don’t get me wrong, Grace Potter has an amazing voice, and she’s got more talent in her little finger than a lot of people that make the big time, but she needs to pick a genre. I give her major props though, because the “WTF” looks that welcomed her music didn’t stop her from performing very passionately.

Tim McGraw…  What can I say?  Wow!  He rocked that place! I saw him previously in 2007 and was unimpressed. This weekend he performed so solidly and enthusiastically that I’m thankful I was able to attend the show. His voice was solid. He worked the ramp and gave it his all… and maybe then some.

I was in the Sand Bar and people around me were loving him. At this point, people were still there to enjoy the music… with one exception. These 2 drunk girls that decided Back When was the choice song to make out with random guys for an entire song. A ho was not a hoe Friday night… I digress. It was hard to maintain focus on the show with the shenanigans that surrounded us… so we relocated. Nonetheless, Tim looked and sounded amazing!

The stadium was completely filled when Kenny hit the stage. Boston LOVES Kenny Chesney! He appeared in the middle of the seats and then rode a mechanical swing contraption to the stage. Many a girl was hoping it would break and he’d fall into their arms. Fortunately, he made it safely to the main stage where he remained for most of the night; he only came out on the ramp occasionally.

An appreciative Kenny thanked us at the end of every song for coming out to his show. This was very nice, but it felt like the show was ending every time he completed a song. By the time I was over being smacked by the girls’ hair next to me and tons of random people making out…to the most non-romantic songs… we left. Unfortunately, this meant we missed the encore… but could hear it as we walked the mile to my car. They sounded amazing. I now wish I had been at the Saturday show when Faith Hill joined Tim on stage.

Overall, it was great show! The performers were there to host a party, and they did just that! I’d love to see them together again… but, as a music lover, I wish the crowd would control their drinking.

According to Foxborough Police Sergeant Richard Noonan, the police arrested 101 people and took 466 into custody over the two days of performances. The charges ranged from a minor in possession of alcohol, disorderly conduct, trespassing, and assault and battery on a police officer. One person was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and another was arrested for drug possession.

What I’ll never understand is why you’ll spend so much money to be there, and then get so drunk you won’t remember anything from the show.  I’m all for having a great time, but I also want to remember the show…
